Transatlantic @ DC9 (3.08.08)

Mmmmmkay, so Transatlantic at DC9 Saturday night was predictably rowdy, if lacking in sweaty dance-party body odor that was Nouveau Riche two weeks ago. Although I didn’t miss the pungent smell of musty dance orgy, I thought, at least given the sickness of Cory’s DJ set, there should’ve been more people there. However, as you can well see from the photos, the party was still live. Once again, my lady in red (aka Kristen) offered herself up as the greatest subject my party lens has ever known. Kristen, my offer stands, you can model for me anytime, seriously. And a special shot goes out to my new friend Cassandra working the doors Saturday night, stay classy.

Disco City @ The Rock N Roll Hotel (3.07.08)

08_3.07_DiscoCity-3, originally uploaded by D.FINE.

Friday night at Rock ‘n Roll hotel, DJ Chris Burns brought his “A” game, disco extraordinare was in effect. As the hotel plays host to those ready and willing to venture beyond the manicured confines of northwest DC, Disco City is also out of the ordinary, featuring a host of (’70s?) electronica, things you’ve maybe never heard but yet pops with a sound that is instantly recognizable. The dance party was definitely contagious, as patrons get down, I try to capture the magic that is Disco City.

Gallery Opening, First Friday @ Hillyer Art Space (3.07.08)

Hillyer Art Space played host Friday night, featuring a collection of artists, perhaps most notably though was Don Kimes’ show After the Flood in the main room, displaying work he has created after a flood at his house in Maryland destroyed most of his life’s work. To quote text from the show itself, “the paintings both subtle and dramatic, demonstrate his [Kimes’] ability to express the minute and sensitive effects of change in massive sizes and organic movements.”

Blogs, Meet Booze @ The Space (3.03.08)

08_3.03_SpaceBlog-129, originally uploaded by D.FINE.

The Space is a relatively new spot on 9 & N that has a decent buzz going as yet another hot spot trending downtown-wards. Part-owner/bartender Jodi Silis stocks the bar with a fine selection of everything from beer to wine to bourbon, keeping patrons at bay with food and drink. The Space is a sleek, tastefully decorated spot to check out next time you're near the convention center.

The weather Monday night could not have been better, air was a breezy 62 (guesstimate?) degrees, both the upstairs and downstairs was doors open and people seemed generally speaking of high spirits in anticipation of the Politics Online conference.

Fever & Coats @ Velvet Lounge (3.01.08)

08_3.01_Velvet-50, originally uploaded by D.FINE.

Velvet Lounge was packed on Saturday night, as Svetlana of BYT alluded, a complete word of mouth phenomenon. Every once in a while the planets align, and everyone who should show up, shows up, and the bands reflected the energy back at us. As always Velvet Lounge proved to be the diamond in the rough of the DC indie rock venues. Great sound, great lights, great space, great crowd, great shows, great bands.

Marquis @ Napoleon (2.28.08)

08_2.28_Marquis-33, originally uploaded by D.FINE.

Napoleon has to be one of the best spots, if not the ONLY spot in Adams Morgan to hear a great DJ any night of the week, get great service and generally hang out in an environment that attracts a crowd other than the GW Greek scene. The downstairs, characterized by it's tradmark fleur-de-lys inspired gold flourished wall paper, creates an appealing, fresh atmosphere, that seems to consistently lend itself nicely to a young and hip crowd.

The Whole Truth Campaign @ U.S. Supreme Court (2.26.08)

CT 0228_Layout edit_Page_1, originally uploaded by D.FINE.

Wow. I'm proud to have been a part of such an important and amazing cause that was The Whole Truth Campaign. Not only did I get the chance to support such an amazing effort, but I also had the special privilege of shooting the Governor of Alaska, Sarah Palin, and one of the Senators from Alaska Lisa Murkowski (both female Republicans...).

The image above is from the cover of an Alaskan newspaper, the Cordova Times. All the pictures run in their four-page spread were mine. Anyways, be sure to check out the composites I made of the Supreme Court as well as the crazy sky I caught as the sun went down over the Washington Monument.
